Having removed the heat channels, I proceeded to drill out and remove the remaining pieces in each corner. This allows me to assess the extent of the rust and begin removing the affected metal for repairs.

The driver’s side appears to be in worse condition compared to the other side and requires significant work to support the channel properly. Rust is present around the bottom of the A-pillar and in the rear corner, necessitating attention.

It appears there was damage to the wheel well that someone attempted to repair previously. Small tears remain around the wheel well, and some broken spot welds were overlooked. The rear layer needs to be repaired initially, followed by fitting the inner panel to the channel.

With the channel fit in place, the inner panel can be made for the rear.

The front lower A-pillar was carefully marked, cut, and beginning to form its shape. Interestingly, a few items were discovered inside the heat channel, seemingly stashed away a long time ago. A quick search revealed that the drug was produced between 1955 to 1978, indicating it had been there for quite some time!

The rear inner heat channel end cap panel is starting to take shape.
